BBC Television Center Closing - Story

The BBC Television Centre in West London has been the home of BBC Television and News output for almost the last half-century. In an announcement on 18 October, BBC Director General Mark Thompson confirmed that this iconic building is to be sold off in a series of cost-cutting measures which include the loss of up to 2500 staff over the next six years.

Getting It Straight from Staite: Jewel Staite Talks About Being On Board for Stargate Atlantis’ Fourth Season

October 19, 2007

Jewel Staite Stargate Atlantis Interview

“She’s a bit of a scaredy cat. She’s not very good in dire or violent situations. She scares easily, which is not such a good thing when you’re in the world of Atlantis. She’s really great under pressure though. I think that’s when she’s at her best, especially when she’s in her element; anything to do with medicine or a complicated medical situation she’s just there. She’s just on. She’s very, very, very smart and very focused.” (more…)

The Tellybox: Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen…Oh yes he is!

BBC Robin Hood Review, Television

It must have seemed like such a good idea, putting a contemporary spin on an old favourite. Over the years the legend of Robin Hood has provided a rich seam for TV and movies. Errol Flynn, Kevin Kostner and Douglas Fairbanks have all played the green-tight-wearing philanthropist and it was entirely unsurprising that the BBC, after the success of their updated Doctor Who, would want to have a go at re-imagining the Robin Hood stories.

Battlestar Galactica Razor Review - Television

When I went to the mailbox earlier this week there was a little surprise in my box namely a Sci-Fi screener for Battlestar Galactica: Razor. I generally do not review Sci-Fi Channel screeners because I get them so early in the process that the shows are usually incomplete, they are good for background information but not really to review. Razor was the first screener I received from them that was actually complete and wow, did I like this movie. I’m ready for the next season of BSG. (more…)

Angel Season 6 is coming?

October 10, 2007

Angel Continues in Comic Book Form

A few months ago Josh Whedon launched a new Buffy The Vampire Slayer comic book that has become the official season eight for the television show. I’ve been reading it every time I go to Borders and so far it’s, eh. Not great, not bad, it’s just there. But it has been successful for Dark Horse, now the folks at IDW who owns the rights to Angel has announced a new official season of Angel in Comic Book form. Read the entire news release below. The Boondocks: Adult Swim’s Edgiest Series Returns!

October 8, 2007

The Boondocks TV Review

When the second season of The Boondocks premieres tonight [Adult Swim, 11:30/10:30C], there will be a few cosmetic changes. The animation is noticeably improved and the sound is better. What hasn’t changed is the way that stories written over a year ago will still seem as if they were ripped from today’s headlines.

Welcome to the Tellybox! by Carole Gordon

October 6, 2007

Welcome to the Tellybox – the blog where I will chat about the very best of British telly, as well as the not-so-good and sometimes the downright nasty. So, you can expect lots of meanderings about the fabulous Doctor Who, the intermittently fabulous Torchwood, the yeah-okay-anachronistic-but-has-that-hottie-Richard-Armitage-in-it Robin Hood, and the one I’m still not sure about, Primeval. Maybe because the title is spelt wrong.

Flash Gordon gets Sam Jones as Guest Star

Check out this week’s installment of Flash Gordon, it features a special guest star – Sam Jones, the man who starred in the original 80s Flash Gordon flick.  You know, the one with all the cool Queen music.  Normally we at Eclipse hate stunt casting, but this could be very cool.  The show will air Friday, Oct 5th at 9pm EST.
