It’s the late 1950s, a warm night in Cuba, the calm before the storm. A wealthy family is thriving under the restrictive yet American friendly regime of Fulgencio Batista. A man rises to the forefront of Cuban politics creating promises of wealth and prosperity to all. The consequences that erupt from this revolution tears the wealthy family apart and a successful nightclub owner is caught in the violent transition from an oppressive regime to Marxist rule.
Sixteen years in the making, this film marks the directing debut of Andy Garcia who also starred, produced, and composed the musical score. Shot in 35 days in three different locations- Puerto Rico, Miami, and NYC- the film was released via Lionsgate. Garcia was inspired to devise this film because his family, along with the family of screenwriter Guillermo Cabrera Infante, lived in pre-Castro Cuba.
Andy Garcia was honored with the best director award for his efforts at the Imagen Awards in Beverly Hills, CA. Fans and critics alike accepted Andy with open arms as he transitions from actor to director. “Vibrant, Excellent, Entertaining. Passion burns through every frame!” raves Stephen Farber from Movieline. Andy can also be seen in the upcoming third installment of the Ocean’s Eleven franchise, ‘Ocean’s Thirteen,” coming out next year.
