“Ladies in Lavender”

“Ladies in Lavender” is based on a short story which takes place in Cornwall, England shortly before the Second World War. Two matronly sisters live together (twin beds in the same room in a large house) by the seashore. One day they find a half-dead young man washed up on the beach. They take this foreigner into their home. “Ladies of Cornwall” or “Dames of Cornwall” would be more appropriate titles. There’s not a lot of plot and some major unanswered questions. The reasons to see this are the re-creation of the time, the good acting, and the old-fashioned atmosphere.
